The fall/winter tour that everyone is a buzz about is Simple Plan with support acts State Champs and We The Kings. That buzz amped up even more when the three groups combined forces and recently released “Where I Belong,” undoubtedly creating a moment for fans to look forward to each night of the tour. With their 7th studio album due out in 2020, We The Kings further hyped everything up with the release of their brand-new single “Turn It Up.” The pop-punk laden band, known for mainstream smashes such as “Check Yes Juliet” and “Say You Like Me,” gives us a fun, upbeat song that keeps you clapping along with the groove from start to finish with new single “Turn It Up.” Travis Clark’s know-how with his vocals elevates the lyrics throughout the first half of the song, which finds him singing about the confusing moments of whether to take that next step forward into the unknown or quit right where you’re at; willing himself to stay in a calm state of mind as he sings, “breathe in, breathe, out, breathe in.” By the second half of the song, Clark has resolved his confusion and has seen the light so-to-speak as he motivates himself with lines such as, “I’ve come too far to let this go” and “I found I’m bound for more than this, I’m all I’ve got so what’s the risk.” But underneath the poignant lyric for a generation who needs a song like this, sits a rhythm that in its simplicity keeps you bopping and clapping along with it; just take one listen to the bridge and you can’t help but add a clap to it as you sing-a-long with the “whoa oh oh oh oh.” We The Kings have given us our first taste of what’s still to come from their forthcoming album, but in the immediate, they’ve masterfully released something that’s built for live audience participation and have given fans another moment to look forward each night of the upcoming tour.
